"In creating the design for the Rose rug, I began by experimenting, once again, with the idea of scale. I tried composing this rose motif in various ways and then hit upon the idea of blowing it up to a larger-than-life scale. The bigger it got, the better it got. The high-low tufting technique Glen Eden suggested for this design further enhances its abstract quality.
"This collection is influenced by the colors, textures and motifs used by the great Italian Renaissance painter, Giotto di Bondone, in frescoes he created on the ceiling of the chapel at Assisi. The Giotto star is among my favorite ornamental patterns to use in abstract compositions. Its five points allow for a myriad of juxtapositions within a field, and as a single stand-alone motif, it has great graphic power."
